Effective soldering fume extraction with reliable filters
When it comes to soldering fume extraction, it is crucial to use high-quality systems with the right filters to minimise health risks. The systems should have the following filters:
- Pre-filter: removes coarse particles and protects the finer filters, thus extending their lifespan. It must be changed regularly to ensure efficiency.
- HEPA fine dust filter: removes harmful fine dust particles from the air.
- Activated carbon filter: binds smoke particles on its surface and is particularly important for soldering fume extraction. This should be changed at least three times a year to ensure its effectiveness.
Our WATRON solder fume extractors are equipped with reliable filters and provide a powerful extraction of at least 100 m³ per hour. They are also equipped with visual or audible warning signals that indicate when the filters are full. This is how we guarantee continuous and effective extraction of solder fumes.
Legal requirements for solder fume extraction
Solder fumes can release toxic and carcinogenic aerosols depending on the material being processed. Prolonged or regular exposure can lead to occupational asthma and other lung diseases, while even low-level contact can irritate the respiratory tract.
To protect the health of employees, the German Social Accident Insurance prescribes the use of solder fume extraction systems when handling lead-based solder directly at the point of origin. Accordingly, a hall extraction system is out of the question for extracting lead-based soldering fumes – here the smoke would initially spread too much throughout the workshop. Instead, an extraction arm which can be attached above the soldering iron and extracts the fumes, is the ideal solution.
