Legal requirements for the extraction of welding fumes

Welding fumes can have serious health consequences, as the tiny particles, which are smaller than 10 µm, can enter the respiratory tract and cause irritation. Particularly dangerous is alveolar dust, which can penetrate into the alveoli, affecting oxygen intake and reducing the transport of carbon dioxide to the lungs. Ultrafine dust, which is even smaller, can even pass through the cell membrane and enter the bloodstream, where it can cause damage throughout the body.

To protect welders' health, occupational exposure limits have been introduced, capping the maximum respirable dust concentration at 1.25 mg/m³. It is therefore crucial to install welding fume extraction directly at the welding point to efficiently extract toxic dust and ensure a safe working environment.

Local extraction and extraction arms for welding fumes

The most effective method of welding fume extraction is local extraction, where the extractor is positioned directly at the source. This prevents the fine particles from spreading throughout the room. With a flexible extraction arm the welding fumes can be captured and extracted immediately above the weld, and the arm can be easily moved across the workplace to ensure optimal extraction in different working positions.
